Wal died suddenly earlier this year and as a tribute his mates at the Narooma Men’s Shed decided to build and erect a bench at his favourite spot on the Kianga foreshore.
On Saturday morning, a group of “shedders” met at the shed, picked up Wally’s bench, took it to Kianga and installed it on the concrete slab.
The slab location had been approved by Eurobodalla Shire Council and the concrete generously donated by Cadgee Concrete.
Those in attendance were Bernard Jackson, John Gerrard, Bernie Perrett, Steve McGourtry, David Trickett, Ken Sheppard, Harry Hammond, president Brian Craven and Phill Stokes.
Dick Nagle was away on holiday but was a major part of the construction team.
A plaque has been organised by Wally’s family and when his partner Faith can organise an appropriate time for a family gathering, given that son Rhys is now fully involved with the Royal Australian Navy, a plaque dedication ceremony will take place.
