EUROBODALLA Shire Council has joined forces with former Moruya Sharks footballer Ack Weyman to present the Ack Weyman Energy Challenge to local community groups and sporting clubs. The challenge is designed to help residents reduce their energy costs and is offering prizes of $1,000, $200 and $500 to the winning groups.

To take part all you need to do is nominate your club or group and fill out a survey by Monday, December 8. The survey has 10 simple questions based on the ‘Easy steps to save power around your home’ fact sheet. You can pick up the fact sheet and survey now from your club manager or download and complete it on Council’s website, www.esc.nsw.gov.au
The energy challenge is part of Council’s Community Building Sustainability Project which has been educating and supporting the users of 50 community buildings across Eurobodalla for the last two years to help them reduce their energy costs. Sport clubs, community halls, and RFS sheds have been visited by Council’s sustainability staff and fitted with simple energy and water efficiency solutions.
This challenge is all about phase two of the project which is to educate people to save energy at home.
‘We don’t like to see clubs, volunteers, community groups or households losing money on energy bills. So it is great to see there’s some support and incentives to save energy at home as well as at our community facilities,’ Ack Weyman said.
He is calling on very active and strong volunteers, groups and sporting clubs in our community to get behind this campaign to save energy at home.
‘Please distribute the surveys to your members and friends because the groups or clubs that have the most correct responses will get to win the prizes. I am sure your group or club could put the prize money to good use for much needed sporting gear or materials,’ Mr Weyman said.
The Ack Weyman Energy Challenge is funded by Eurobodalla Shire Council and the NSW Environmental Trust. Entries close at 5pm on Monday, December 8, 2014.
