It’s all part of the “Nude Food” movement and the “Love Food Hate Waste” campaign meant to reduce the amount of rubbish going to landfill.
The students have turned it onto a fun game and competition with the Smash lunchbox company offering up prizes worth $2500 to participating schools.
Leading way is teacher Danielle Mairs and her Year 2 class, the Kangaroos.
“The children of Narooma Public School have participated in ‘Nude Food Day’ each Wednesday,” Ms Mairs said.
“The children and their families have been working on reducing the amount of packaging in their lunchboxes.
“Each week on a Wednesday, each class counts the amount of packaging it has and at the end of the term, the winning class receives a class reward.
“The Nude Food Day is an initiative to encourage healthy eating and to reduce the amount of rubbish created at Narooma Public School.”
One of the top Narooma Public School “wrap attackers” is Year 2 student Audrey who says using less plastic and wrapping in her lunch box will help keep the ocean clean.
“Not having any rubbish means there is less rubbish going into the sea killing the coral and animals.”
