The day kicked off at the University of Canberra with Level 4 International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) senior coach, Susan Fulop, taking the athletes through a sprint and agility session. The athletes’ running technique was assessed and feedback was provided on how to improve their efficiency and acceleration. Athletes were then instructed on techniques to safely and effectively execute change of direction, especially while maintaining speed.

A coaching session with Level 2 rugby league coach and former Australian touch football representative, Michael Hardgrave, followed. Hardgrave developed athletes’ basic ball handling skills and attack, before incorporating these techniques into enjoyable game-like scenarios. The afternoon wrapped up with the squad heading to the AIS Recovery Centre to undertake best practice recovery strategies to optimise their training and performance.

The final training camp for 2014 is in Yass and Canberra on December 13-14.
