FOR two weeks in October, Marine Rescue Bermagui hosted a 15-year-old student Philipp Adam, from Bad Soden, near Frankfurt in Germany. Philipp, currently in his 11th year of schooling, attends the Albert Einstein School in Schwalbach and was required to undertake a work experience program as part of his studies.

Philipp is the nephew of Jochen Adam who recently was awarded his 15-year service medal for his contribution to Marine Rescue Bermagui.
Philipp was in Australia visiting his relatives before travelling to Singapore to attend his sister’s wedding, and requested that he be able to complete his work experience with our Marine Rescue unit while in this country.
While learning about the responsibilities of a marine rescue volunteer, Philipp spent time each day with the radio operators and became proficient in use of the new computerized Seahawk to log on and off local recreational fishermen.
Philipp was also keen to experience crew training on the unit’s rescue boat BG30 and participated in an emergency preparedness training exercise involving man overboard and fire-at-sea scenarios.
In addition to his interests of reading, music, computing and tennis, Philipp can now add working as a rescue volunteer in Australia to his résumé.
Meanwhile, the Narooma Marine Rescue unit continues to do barbecues at the Apex Park boat ramp every Sunday during the summer months, so head down and get a sausage sandwich to support the unit.
