Narooma 1 versus Moruya 1
FOR their last club game of the season the Narooma girls travelled to Moruya, who gave the Narooma girls a run for their money during the first half, and at half time Moruya was leading 1-0. However, Narooma staged a strong fightback in the second half, creating chances and defending well. Their persistence paid off when Emma scored following some good work from the rest of the team. Out on the wing Zoe Williams put in a strong performance and worked tirelessly to win the ball, while midfielder Maddy Carruthers put through some terrific passes to the Narooma strikers. Both girls were much deserved players of the match. The Narooma girls will now meet Moruya again in the semi-finals this coming weekend.

Narooma 1 versus Moruya 3
THE Narooma men met Moruya on the weekend to play off for a berth in the semi-finals. For the Narooma men it was a tough ask, playing with a depleted side and no subs. Despite this, the Narooma men did not give up all game and played some great football against a side determined to win no matter what. Although it was not to be for Narooma, the team should be proud of the sportsmanship and football skills they have displayed all season. Thanks go to coach Patrick Armstrong who worked hard all season for the team.
Under 13 Redbacks versus Moruya Royals
Gundary Oval, Sunday, August 26
THE final competition match between top of the table Narooma Redbacks and sixth placed Moruya Royals was played last Sunday at Gundary Oval. As it was the first match of the day, the crowd was very sparse and the atmosphere lacking as Moruya kicked off. It took a short time for the Narooma side to click into gear, with Sam N’s shot over the bar starting a morning of territorial domination.
After 10 minutes, one of Elliott’s lofted drives found the net and over the next 50 minutes the Redbacks were able to score a further six times, with Elliott, Teig, Sam N and Sam J sharing the goals. Jamie and Ryan came close as well as the scoreboard kept ticking over.
Moruya never gave up and there was plenty of work to do at the back for Sarah, Nakita, Logan and Oscar snuffing out the Royals attack. Nick provided the link between defence and attack in midfield, and the Redbacks showed they are rightfully the minor premiers.
Narooma played steadily all game, encouraging each other with positive talk and calls and refusing to let Moruya into the game. The final score of 7-0 was a credit to all players who gave it their best for the full game.
The Narooma Sporting and Services Club Player’s Player Award went to Ryan.
The Under 13 Redbacks now move into the major semi-final next Sunday against Moruya Blues, with the winner going straight into the grand final. It is sure to be a tough game and Narooma will have to be at their best to contain the strong Moruya strikers.
Coach Nigel has instructed all players to have an early night on Saturday to have them at their peak on Sunday. Good luck Redbacks!
