Bega MP Andrew Constance is pleased to advise that Roads and Maritime Services will install a new pedestrian underpass at the northern end of Narooma Bridge to provide the community with a safe crossing of the Princes Highway.

This follows on from last week’s front page story in the Narooma News where residents expressed their need to have a safe crossing and also frustration at funding not being found.
Mr Constance said the new underpass will provide safety for pedestrians to access the pathway on the eastern side of the bridge and should now be delivered in the second half of 2015.
“The NSW Government allocated $180,000 for the project after a funding submission by Eurobodalla Shire Council earlier this year,” Mr Constance said.
“In consultation with Council, Roads and Maritime investigated a number of options for a proposed pedestrian link.
"The option agreed by Roads and Maritime and Council as the most practical and affordable is an elevated footpath over the Wagonga Inlet, around 40 metres long with a flight of stairs on the eastern end.
“Along with providing safer access for pedestrians, the new underpass is also another project which provides an active transport link for South Coast residents.”
Mr Constance said technical investigations were now under way to determine the best type of footings and supports for the elevated walkway.
“A concept design has now been developed and the project will be delivered by the second half of next year, subject to these investigations and environmental considerations,” Mr Constance said.
Mr Constance said “I am again pleased to see NSW State and Local Government’s working together to deliver a project which will greatly benefit our local community.”
Mayor Lindsay Brown and councillor Neil Burnside had both worked to secure funding and plans for the underpass under the Narooma Bridge and presumably will be elated that funding had now been secured for the project.
Council's traffic committee chairman Neil Burnside has worked with a RMS representative to gain funding for the underpass, which will complete the pedestrian access from North Narooma to the cycleway and boardwalk and facilitate safe crossing of the highway at this dangerous point.
