The rowboat and Active Endeavours is about teaching student maths through the art of building wooden boats.
Teacher and program founder Ian Langworthy said this included the measurements and dimensions and even working out the volume of paint needed based on the surface area.
“The kids enjoyed the process thoroughly and should pat themselves on the back as they’ve done a great job,” he said.
He is already looking forward to building another boat with next year’s class, while other vessels including kayaks and a sailing boat had also been donated meaning there could soon be a fleet of Active Endeavours boats for students and the community to use on the inlet.
Narooma High students Adin Thompson-Blanchard, Will Middlemiss, Piper Lymbery and Effie Musumeci and teacher Ian Langworthy with deputy principal John Melville pouring the ginger beer.
Then Adin, Will and Piper climbed in and Mr Langworthy rowed the boat out past the Quarterdeck Marina and back.
“It didn’t sink, so that was good,” Adin said.
The best thing about the Active Endeavours program and building the boat according to Will was “Not doing maths, but doing learning it in a different way”.
