The works were completed earlier this month and included sealing the road, a new car parking area, a beach staircase and planted earth mounds that are designed to discourage vehicles from driving across sensitive areas.
To provide more protection for the coast, council has also carried out weed controls on the headland and in the adjoining wetland reserve to encourage the regeneration of the native vegetation and planted new low growing native grasses, groundcover plants and shrubs in the areas affected by erosion.
The Carters Headland project has been funded by a grant from the Office of Environment and Heritage’s Coastal Management Program.
It ties in with other Eurobodalla Shire Council initiatives in the area, including the restoration of Themeda Grasslands at Duesbury Point and Yabbarra Beach and a new staircase at Yabbarra Point.
