The high picturesque site overlooks both the outlet of the Tuross River into the Tasman Sea and the main lifeguard-protected surf beach.
Tuross Head Marine Rescue volunteers kept the large crowd well fed and the Tuross Head Country Club singers emphasised the increasing meaning of the day with a moving rendition of I am Australian.
Led by choirmaster Steve Johnston, the singers performed a range of songs very appropriate to the day of national celebration and he soon had the large crowd singing and performing antics to such songs as Tie Me Kangaroo Down.
The group has now been established for more than 10 years and meets at the Tuross Head Country Club each Monday night at 7pm for rehearsals.
Visitors and new members are warmly welcomed.
The day was also a fund-raising day for Marine Rescue, with a lucky winner of the raffle to receive a Quintex Explorer Runabout outboard.
Local flag waving residents and visitors who attended the entertaining celebration certainly would have left feeling that this is not a bad country in which we live.
