There were plenty of stacks especially in the wet, but everyone survived and managed some great placing’s for the club.
“It was a mix of wet and dry track, which kept it interesting lots of big slides in the corners, a great day had by all,” Bermagui racer Ken Jacobs said.
For the juniors, the Beard family of Narooma was well represented with Hannah second, Ammon third and Benjamin fifth.
In the classic luge, Nic McKirdy of Batemans Bay finished second, while Ken Jacobs was third.
In street luge, Nic McKirdy was first, Bill Salmon of Bermagui seventh and Ken Jacobs 12th.
Southern NSW Street Luge Racers travel all around Australia competing at events and Nic McKirdy has even competed at an international level and was ranked among the world’s best.
The club is always looking for new members who are keen to try the sport.
In classic luge, where street luge originated, all aspects of the wooden board are pretty much restricted, keeping costs down to around $300 and providing a more even playing field where the emphasis is on the rider as opposed to the equipment.
With street luge, most of the boards run six to eight wheels, they're usually made of metal and composites and range from $800 up to around $8000 and reach speeds of up to 85km/h.
