ON Saturday and Sunday, February 21 and 22 representative swimmers from Narooma Swim Club travelled to Sydney’s Olympic Park to compete in the NSW Country Championships.

Narooma’s team of seven swimmers qualified for 30 individual events and two relays. The team members Milaina Café, Aiden Miles, Banjo King Georgia and Michala Pendergast along with Sophie and Ruby O’Meara produced multiple Personal Best (PB) swims and top 10 results.
This put Narooma’s small team right up there in the club point’s scores and as usual against much larger clubs.
The Narooma team performed well and came in at 29th out of the 102 clubs competing on the weekend.
With multiple swimmers qualifying for the first time to swim at the meet this alone was a major achievement.
Milaina, Aiden, Michala, Sophie and Ruby all performed exceptionally well for their first time at a state meet.
Milaina came in with a two second PB for her 100m breaststroke.
Aiden achieved a PB in his 100m breaststroke and just missed out on a top 10 result.
Sophie performed well in her events including a three second PB in her 200m breaststroke.
Michala with a two second PB in her 100m freestyle also narrowly missed out on a top 10 result.
Banjo came away with top 10 results for his 100m and 50m butterfly and 100m freestyle and two PB’s. Georgia claimed seven top 10 results and six PB’s for her swims. In doing so Georgia came away with gold medals for the 100 and 200m breaststroke and a bronze for the 50m freestyle and has now qualified for the Australian National Age Championships in April.
Narooma’s 12 and under 200m freestyle relay and 200m medley relay teams with Ruby, Sophie, Milaina, Michala and Georgia teaming up continued to perform well in the fast paced relays and develop their team racing skills.
Once again the team were great ambassadors for the club and congratulations to all our swimmers on a fantastic effort all round.
Back home, Swim Club is nearing the end of the summer season with Club Championships and Presentation nights held during March. Winter Club swimming will start for 2015 after Easter when term 2 for school goes back.
