PRE-SEASON training has seen a solid base of senior players form at Bill Smyth Oval and there are some positive signs for the Narooma Lion’s season ahead. The persistence and leadership of coach, Rowan Hawkey to keep a team, wavering in numbers competing each week in 2014 appears to have stoked a renewed ‘team’ atmosphere and a resolve that the Lions must continue the clubs proud history on into the future.

The Lion’s juniors (including the 2014 U16s premiership) side are, once again expected to be strong and it is pleasing to see the continuance of Mick Clothier and Peter Hodge in coaching roles.
One major setback however is the lack of interest from volunteers for committee roles. With today’s society becoming increasingly time poor and distracted by social media and other stimulations, it appears that sporting clubs are becoming more about the instant gratification to be had on game day and less about the background support that is required to make it happen.
The Lions are appealing across the community for volunteers to step into committee roles and get the club functioning well. For those who are willing to help, there is a great sense of fulfilment to be had as they see the fruits of their assistance turn into excitement on game day. If you are interested in volunteering your time at the Narooma Lions AFL Club, email your details to naroomalionsafl@gmail.com.
Registration day for players is this Thursday, (March 5) at Bill Smyth Oval from 4.30pm.
