Lives: Moruya
1. What is the most important message you have received from the community during this election campaign?
The main message I have received is that it is services we need, not the sale of poles and wires or building a new bridge. We need increased funding to schools, health services and Indigenous services, not cuts or privatisation. We especially need our TAFE strengthened, not outsourced, as it is the best means of getting our young and not-so-young unemployed the skills to gain employment.
2. How has your focus changed since the start of the election campaign?
Clean politics and restoration of rural services was the main start of my campaign but I was alarmed about the looming threat to our food and water supplies that is the DA proposal of cyanide processing at Dargues Reef mine. I hope all parties will combine to insist on the need for a full independent Environ-
mental Impact Statement relating to the whole Deua/Moruya river catchments. On site gold processing with cyanide in our catchment jeopardises the whole region well into the foreseeable future.
3. How will you/your party improve the Eurobodalla’s economy?
We support the development of local renewable energy to provide clean jobs as the Bega Valley has recently launched with its community solar farm. We also propose that native timber logging is stopped and transferred to plantation timber logging. The savings from not subsidising native timber logging can be used to convert some forests to extra national parks and other parts to be converted to eco-tourism activities such as bike and horse riding and multi-day walking tracks with facilities.
4. Why should residents vote for you?
Because I am a respected citizen who cares about this community and belongs to a party which wants to work with the community in providing quality services, training and employment opportunities while promoting sustainable development. We do not support privatising public services or subsidising foreign companies but do support local community and small business development.
5. Is there anything else you would like to add?
The Greens Party has never been before ICAC because we do not accept corporate donations so we can not be influenced by big business. We are a party which supports grassroots democracy, believes in peace and non violence and social and economic justice and cares for the environment into the long term future. Clean air, clean water and clean politics is our theme.
