Host club Broulee Surfers SLSC and the officials and water safety personnel from across the branch, who came together to make it happen, did a great job. And it was great to see Mollymook SLSC competitors from the south coast branch join in the action.
Narooma had a few members in their debut carnival: Shaun Jorgensen and Helen Hayward in the seniors and Josh Ryan, Liam Baker and Tom Foat in the juniors.
We were also excited to see Ayron Patmore and Pip Thorn make their carnival comeback. Well done to each of them who, from all reports, performed well and enjoyed themselves. We are sure they will be back for more next season.
There was decent surf on Saturday and our boaties once again had fun battling both the surf and each other. Thank you to Chris Young who stepped in and swept our second crew of veterans. Chris got a lot wetter than he would have in his role as official.
The carnage in the surf made the spectators watch with nervousness but thankfully the only damage was that of a Pambula oar.
There was a strong Narooma presence at both carnivals which adds to the atmosphere with so many of us cheering on the red, black and white. We were able to enter multiple teams in some of the entertaining relay events from the Taplin and Beach Sprints in the seniors to the Wade, Beach Sprints and the Buchanan Relay for our juniors.
The organisers and participants adapted well to the limited sand area due to the high tide.
The good sized, full waves on Sunday were challenging when the sets came through so our Nippers should be congratulated for having a solid attempt utilising the skills they have been building on this season. Narooma placed well in many events with some great personal achievements across all age groups.
Thanks again to our officials; Steve Dobson, Chris Young, Paul White and Nick Ziviani and our wrinkly water safety members; Gary Vlatkovic, Nigel Constable, Andrew McCaughtrie and Brendan Constable; and our age managers Jacinta Ryan, Helen Hayward, Diann Matters, Geoff Newton, Troy Beecham, Kate Anderson and Ryan Miles. Also to all the parents who add to the positivity of the event by cheering and supporting all the competitors, helping out by keeping their eyes on each others’ toddlers and tending to needs which take them up and down the beach time and again.
Be sure to keep the day free on May 9 to attend our whole club Presentation Day.

George Bass Update
George Bass Surfboat Marathon - 7 days, 7 legs and 190km of the best coastline in Australia.
Far South Coast Branch Surf Life Saving NSW advises that next season's event has been postponed until 2017 and are looking for interested parties to volunteer to be a part of the organising committee.
The Bass is the longest, toughest surfboat race in the world. The George Bass Surfboat Marathon started in 1975 and surf skis were added to the event in the 1990s. The race begins in Batemans Bay, travels down the coast to Eden, attracting crews from all branches across NSW, interstate and even overseas.
