About 8.30am Monday, emergency services responded to reports a car had collided with cars on the Princes Hwy.
On arrival, officers from Far South Coast Local Area Command found the driver, a 48-year-old man, trapped in the car.
Police assisted the man, however he died at the scene.
Witnesses have told police that the Holden Barina was driving south when it collided with parked cars before coming to a stop.
The man from Batemans Bay was the sole occupant of the car, no-one else was injured during the incident.
An investigation into the collision has begun and a report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
Just before 9am Monday, two units from the Bega Volunteer Rescue Association raced out of town with sirens blaring, to join police and other emergency services already on the scene, just a few hundred metres north of the Brogo Hall.
As the ambulances slowly left the area they revealed a utility vehicle sitting perpendicular to the road and another vehicle with severe damage to it's front resting on it's wheels at the bottom of an embankment.
UPDATE, 5pm: Alternating single lane conditions have now been lifted, with traffic returning to normal.
