The ladies Tag Team were the first to take the field at 3.30pm. It was only a scratch match as the Bay hasn't got an official ladies team in the comp.
The Narooma girls played exceptionally well and came out winners 40-nil. It was Batemans Bay’s first game. Tries were scored by Tegan Mundy 2, Jamie Anne Wright, Kayla Tyrrell, Remi Wilton 2, Janaija Parsons and Tiarne McDonald. Everyone played well with Kayla, Tegan, Janaija and Remi making great runs every time they touched the ball.
Best and Fairest points were 3 Remi Wilton; 2 Janaija Parsons and 1 Tegan Mundy with the Coaches Award going to Stacey Hall.
Reserve Grade
THE Narooma Reserve Grade team played exceptionally well considering there were lots of players injured and away. The Reserves had made a significant improvement on last week’s effort and the coach said they should be proud of themselves.
The Reserve Devils were a bit rusty to start with and Batemans Bay scored two tries and a goal in the first few minutes bringing the score to Batemans Bay 10 Narooma nil. Narooma attacked with Milko running amok before Narooma went over to score. The Bay hit straight back with another try and the score was Batemans Bay 16, Narooma 4 going into half time.
Narooma was first to score after the break Batemans Bay 16, Narooma 10 and so the comeback began. The Bay did hit back with another try Batemans Bay 20, Narooma 10. Thanks to Karl Krehan who took a great ball off a running kick and saved a sure try which was followed by a try to Narooma. The Bay scored again Batemans Bay 26, Narooma 16. Then came a hard running try to Stephen Brown - Batemans Bay 26, Narooma 22. Could Narooma do it? Yes, they did when Mark Stewart went over to score the match winning try Bay 26 Narooma 28. Trey Parsons kicked the match winning goal.
Best & Fairest 3 points Andrew Milko Cowley, 2 Stephen Brown, 1 Karl Krehan, Players Player Milko and Coaches award Mark Stewart.
First Grade
THE Narooma Devils first grade began well enough scoring the first try in the first 10 minutes. Chopper played his usual good game and scored for Narooma 4 - Batemans Bay nil. But that score was short lived as the Bay scored in the 20th minute and again 25th minute. Todd Wright and Todd Ayres ran the ball well but to no avail and the Bay scored again 16 to Narooma’s 4 and again twice before half time bringing the score to Batemans Bay 28 Narooma 4.
Narooma didn’t know what hit them and had no answer going into half time.
Hoping Narooma could turn the tables after half time and they certainly looked better, Batemans Bay scored first 32 to Narooma 4. Then a great try by Ayresy (good to see him back) Batemans Bay 32 Narooma 10. Then things fired up and two players got 10 in the bin.
The Bay score twice before Gene Willis scored again the final score Batemans Bay 46 Narooma 16.
So it’s back to the drawing board for first grade this week, and we hope our boys who are injured make a quick recovery.
Best and Fairest 3 points Gene Willis, 2 Clint Wright, 1 Neil Graham and Todd Ayres. Players Player Neil Graham and coaches award Gene Wilis.
There isn’t any footy over the Easter weekend but the following week, we are at home to Moruya on the Saturday and remember we need workers big time.
