We did have the accident on the Narooma bar crossing but thankfully a group of local surfers were right there to rescue to the stricken boaters.
Apparently this was a quite traumatic, full-on event for both the people tossed out of the boat and the rescuers who could clearly hear the young woman yelling for help trapped under the boat.
While having a lifejacket on made it harder to pull her out from under the boat, the rescuers reckon that had the boaters not been wearing life jackets, things could have turned out much worse.
Being a chilly, overcast day, the boaters were wearing heavy clothes and boots and would have had real difficultly staying afloat.
So even if you are worried about being trapped under a boat, always wear a life jacket, besides it’s the law.
Moving on, well done to the organisers of the Tilba Festival and MACS Easter Exhibition, both great events and now fixtures on our local calendars.
Now it’s time to look ahead to the Narooma Oyster Festival and get involved in another great community event coming up on May 2.
