The exhibition, titled From the City to the Sea, is an impressive collection of images about country, urban living and culture.
The exhibition is Shannon’s first professional solo show. Growing up in Narooma, he was obsessed with photography and despite his obvious skill and keen eye, has had no formal training.
“All my experience is self-taught throughout many years of movement and motivation through photographic production,” he said.
“I collaborate all my images in my spare time, putting long hours to capture the right image.
“I use a Canon 60D as my camera with multiple various lenses to suit the type of shot to take, and I enjoy shooting outdoor scenery and long exposure images. Timing is everything when it comes to capturing the right photo in any situation, but you also must have patience as it could be a long process.”
South East Arts has been curating exhibitions at the Bundian Way Gallery for two years, and recently employed Shannon to officially photograph the Djaadjawan Dancers.
Shannon has close links to the local traditional Aboriginal dance group, which was founded by his mother Sharon Mason in 2013, and includes his grandmother, sister and aunties as its dancers.
For the past seventeen years, South East Arts - the peak non profit arts & cultural development body in the south east – has supported and promoted local artists across all mediums, and presented a huge variety of creative projects around the region.
The Bundian Way is a shared history pathway between Targangal (Kosciuszko) and Bilgalera (Fisheries Beach) that connects the highest part of the Australian continent and the coast. Delegate is the only town located along the Bundian Way. The gallery is located in the historic old bank building and occupies three rooms: the Bundian Way Gallery, The Vault and the Bundian Way Room where a series of photographs from along the route show the variety of landscapes to be found.
The Bundian Way Gallery is managed by The Delegate Progress Association Inc. and the Bundian Way, a project of Eden Local Aboriginal Land Council.
