SOMEONE once asked me, “Why did you join the Narooma District Lions Club?”

The answer wasn’t easy but it was based around seeing the good work the Lions Club does and has been doing in the area for many years. The Club was at a low ebb at the time and I thought, with a bit of help our town could continue to benefit from that good work.
I was then asked why do the Lions Club run so many barbecues? The answer came in a number of parts. First the Narooma District Lions Club is very good at running barbecues. They have been a great fundraiser for many years and have supported many worthwhile organisations like the Surf Life Saving Club; all of the schools, Monty’s Place and the Men’s Shed.
You’ll also see Lions Club members cooking the barbecue at the Australia Day breakfast, as a fundraiser for Beyond Blue, for the Cancer Council and for the Pre School. And you will see them in action this week at the Narooma Swimming Pool cooking for the “Big Kahuna Pool Party” for Youth Week.
Does the Narooma Lions Club do anything else? Yes! You’d see them taking part in Clean Up Australia Day, helping with Land Care, supporting Vision Australia and helping to beautify our town by providing the paint for Jenni Bourke and her Narooma High School artists for the Kianga Toilet Block. Other town projects include maintaining the various Lions Parks (there are a number of them) and garden planting at the Primary School and their ongoing support of the Moruya Oncology Unit.
Finally in answer to the question of why join the Narooma District Lions Club? The real answer for me is that it’s good fun doing good things with good people. The club would love to have some more members and we’d welcome anyone to join us at our monthly dinner meeting that is more about dinner than about meeting, at the Narooma Golf Club on the fourth Tuesday of the month.
