“SEEING the Light”, an exhibition of paintings by award winning artist Janet Jones, opens at Narooma's SoART Gallery on Thursday, September 13.
Her exhibition marks the start of a season of exciting back-to-back exhibitions at SoART through to Easter.
“I mainly paint in oils and nearly always from life, no matter how long it takes,” Janet said.
“My subject interests are fairly broad, but the light is crucial and with a lot of these paintings the window of opportunity can be as little as half an hour. The local wildlife can be interesting too!”
Janet regularly exhibits at the Royal Art Society of NSW where she is a Fellow and with the Bowral and District Art Society. She has also exhibited at the SH Ervin Gallery, the Mosman Art Prize, the Willoughby Art Prize, the Shirley Hannan Portrait Prize at Bega, and of course with MACS in Narooma.
“After I won several major colouring competitions as a child, my parents thought I had better go to art school which I did,” Janet said.
Janet then worked in commercial studios in Sydney and London before settling down to freelance illustration which she continued until 2004, doing advertising, publishing, and even Olympic posters, a set of which is on permanent display at Narooma High School’s gym.
Janet has been painting since 1984, concurrently with the day job, and has exhibited widely, had many commissions, won many prizes, and given several workshops.
Everyone is invited to join Janet for drinks at the official opening of the exhibition on Saturday, September 15, from 3pm until 5pm at the SoART Gallery, Narooma, next to the Kinema.
The exhibition will run from September 13 until 25, from 10am until 4pm daily.
