It was not the Devils’ day last Sunday in front of a massive crowd. The best player for the Devils was “man mountain” Josh Scrymageour, who smashed the Moruya boys at every opportunity.
The focus for the Devils now switches to this week’s game, which will be no easier as the boys know they have no second chances from here on in.
Games start at 10.30am this Sunday at Narooma’s Bill Smyth Oval, with the first grade fixture kicking off at 2.30pm.
Be there to support the Devils!
Narooma Junior Rugby League
U10s V Merimbula
This is the first year the U10s can actually play for competition points. They have done an awesome job to make it through to the semi-finals. They came up against a very determined Merimbula side.
The game was fast and hard, but our boys kept there cool and played a well-rounded game. While they had some of their parents and coaches on the edge of their seats at times, the boys stuck to their game plan, had faith in each other, and came out winners 22-16.
The boys will now have a well-deserved week off as they wait to see who they will play against in the preliminary finals in Eden in two weeks.
Our try scorers were Mitchell Swadling, Tommy Barker, Caleb Rapley and Alby Betteridge. Conversions went to Jack Bennett, Mitchell Swadling and Tully Wilton.
U11s V Eden
The U11s have struggled for numbers all year. After injury and illness took a couple of their players out for most of the season, and with two boys that just never turned up, they had to rely heavily on the 10s to play up for them each week.
It was great to see them field a full side last Saturday in the semi-finals, with the help from the U10s players. Unfortunately they were defeated by a strong Eden team 26-10.
All the boys played a great game and walk away knowing that they did their best. We hope to see them again next season.
Narooma U14s V Moruya Blue
The minor semi-final saw our Narooma boys take on Moruya-Tuross Blue in Moruya; a side we haven't beaten all year.
The boys went into the game with a definite self-belief and came away with an outstanding 22-12 victory.
Brock Bismire set the tone for the day with an awesome try from a kick. Derain Lyons again led the way with barnstorming hit ups. Connor Carr and Chris Mather were also damaging in attack.
Matt Hayden and Mackenzie O'Neill were brutal in defence shutting down their danger men.
Teig Wilton was at his best again organising the play and was effective in defence as well. He was able supported around the ruck by Ryan Sweeney and Luke Herman.
Ninnum Parsons, Nick Carter and Tyson Hastie were safe at the back defusing many potential threats.
Sean Lee and Bill Porter was once again solid providing our middle third with some starch when needed and Jake Morris had his usual no nonsense game keeping our back line flowing when needed.
Blake Cavanagh, Connor Griffiths and Bede Mumbulla also contributed to the side providing solid play when required.
Our try scorers were Derain Lyon (2), Brock Bismire and Chris Mather with Brock Bismire kicking three conversions.
Well done Devils!
U16s V Moruya
Last Saturday saw the last game ever for all our U16s. While they didn't come out winners they can hold their heads high and be proud of their achievements. We would just like to thank them for all their hard work and commitment over the many years they have played for the junior devils. We wish some of them the best of luck as they take the next journey into playing senior level football.
It will now be up to Toby Rixon and Franko Pakoa to lead the team next season, with the talented group of boys coming through from our U14s side.
The boys would also like to say a huge thankyou to their coach Kerry Day, for his dedication over the past two years. Kerry unfortunately could not be with them on their last game of footy, due to being in hospital after knee surgery. We wish him a speedy recovery.
