The plan sets out proposed management of risks associated with coastal hazards, including sea-level rise, which affect development, infrastructure, public access and the coastal environment.
When adopted, the plan will replace the council’s Interim Coastal Hazards Adaptation Code, currently used to assess development proposals in areas potentially at risk from coastal hazards.
Residents can meet the consultants preparing the plan, from Umwelt Australia, at sessions in Batemans Bay, Broulee, Tuross Head and Narooma.
The Tuross Head session is Wednesday, May 27, at Tuross Head Kyla Hall from 6pm to 8pm, and Narooma session is Thursday, May 28, at Narooma Golf Club from 6pm to 8pm. RSVP to 4474 1374.
Council staff managing the plan's development will attend each session.
Mayor Lindsay Brown said with 110 kilometres of coastline and more than 40 beaches, Eurobodalla Shire Council had more coastal management responsibilities than any other local government in NSW.
“The Eurobodalla Coastal Zone Management Plan will be an important tool in guiding how future development will be delivered on our coast,” Cr Brown said.
“It will help to strategically plan for new infrastructure and provide certainty to the community, private developers and investors around how coastal hazards and sea-level rise are managed.
“We have a responsibility to our community to preserve the coast for its natural beauty and because of the major contribution it makes to our economy and lifestyle.”
