Sergeant Brendan O’Mahony took over as officer in charge last week replacing previous sergeant Steve Mawson, who retired last year.
Customers at the station meanwhile will notice a revamp of the front counter area with construction due to be complete by the end of the week.
Sergeant O’Mahony said a new front counter and a new front office complete with two-way mirror would make the building more secure and improve officers’ interaction with customers coming into the station.
And the new sergeant has seen a few police stations in his 26-year career with NSW Police, his most recent posting being Grafton on the Northern Rivers.
He’s always worked general duties, commencing in Sydney and then Bourke, Coffs Harbour, Iluka Yamba and Maclean.
He was promoted from leading senior constable to head the Narooma station, and is looking forward to working on the Far South Coast.
“It’s a quiet area and the problems that exist on the North Coast are not as prevalent here,” he said.
“I am very focussed on serving the community and its needs.”
He brings him with a big family of six children between the ages of 12 and 19, although they and his wife won’t arrive till end of the year, so they can finish work and school commitments up in Grafton.
Sergeant O’Mahony loves the coast and beach and plans to get actively involved in the local surf life saving club.
