Social bowls winners circle
ON Wednesday the Jackpot Day drew 48 Bowlers. Eight rinks of triples on a nice fine dry day (I even rode the push-bike). The jackpot was worth $150, with the shots margin required to win 18 and no side had that score, but one side fell short by one shot. The first placed side on the day consisted of John Spees, Kevin Cullen and Greg Ryan with a big score defeating Jon King, Peter Jones and Paul Naylor with not enough shots. The second placed side was Leigh Falkiner, Wassa (what are we going to tell Carl) and Big Dog with another big score over Neville Cork, Ken Burrows and Kelly Hayward also with not enough shots. The most important prize of the day, the earliest resting toucher went to Don Williams at 1445 hours. The next Jackpot day is worth $180.
Not much to say about Saturday Bowls, other than a big thankyou to the 12 bowlers (mainly the regulars) who came along for a game. We had three games of pairs with the winners being Tony Fryer and John Downie 20 shots over Don Williams and Brian Seaman 14. Runners-up were Bob Robbins and Tony Gors 20 shots over Mo Hinds and Garry Breust 10. To all the other bowls members bowls is on again next Saturday, so come along and support your club.
Mixed Pairs results
Mavis Hardy, Barry Lymbery 20 shots over Heather Mcgourty, Jeremy Seaton 12, well done Heather and Jeremy. Peter Robson, Dawn Kenny 28 over Margaret Naylor, Jay Breust 14. Leila Gosper, John Breust over Denise and Rod Holman.
Semi-final matches
Leila Gosper, John Breust, 28 over John Spees, (sub) Mavis Hardy 10. Peter Robson, Dawn Kenny, 16 to Isabel Halsey, Keith Pickett 5.
Next match in Mixed Pairs is the final, check notice board for time.

MONDAY turned out to be the usual great day for bowls with cloudless skies and cool winds and Dudley’s long awaited return, with games organised by Ken Adams, Keith and Ralph collecting the money and laughing Leigh on the raffle. We all had to wait for the usual, last-in player, in Scott Kennedy but his excuse of waiting 25 minutes to cross the bridge was accepted as he was bringing the raffle meat tray.
The “lowest winning margin” marble came out much to the disgust of several teams and the winners were Leigh, Norm Wain and that old spinner Marty Turner from runners-up regular prize-winners Leo Winter, Maurie Ferguson and Neville the Butt. The resting toucher and the $125 jackpot, surprisingly didn’t go off. Ken was disappointed with the lack of wrong bias offenders but Leigh with his mate Mike well in hand, firmly set the raffle ground rules necessitating five redraws due to three double headers, (thanks to Ray, Ralph and Keith) and his third call rule, the raffle was finally completed. Great to see Dud back on the green but disappointed to hear at half time that Joe Borg was in hospital with a suspected heart attack. His situation was clarified at full time with the good news he was back home, no heart problems but food poisoning.
Thursday’s cold and overcast conditions saw the money collectors Keith and Bob and Ray Dunbar organising a full green of 42 players with Ace Elphick on the raffles and good to see Joe fit and ready to bowl (mores the pity as he played against the Goose’s trio). The game decider was “secret ends” and the big winners with 13 were Peter the Hat and visitors, Mila and Terry Knudson and runners up with eight, after a great deal of confusion (somehow the points system got mixed up with the secret ends – please don’t ask how) were, Enid Brooker, Jack Harris and Lois McGregor. Richard Goodridge claimed the resting toucher and the Jackpot of $84 remains and starts the pool next week. Ace was a winner pressing the button for the raffle but prizes after that went mainly to the women named Cheryl, Bev (twice) and Gabby, and a couple of blokes in Bob and Joe and happily there was no whinging about the wine.
There was no further bowls over the weekend as the bowlers made way for the croquet players and their South Coast Carnival.

LAST Tuesday brought a change from the wonderful weather enjoyed over the previous few days. Play started despite an early shower and teams persisted until heavier rain sent everyone scurrying for the clubhouse. The lucky rink prize was awarded to Denise Holman, Betty Greenshields and Anne Hunter (skip), defeating Denise playing both lead positions, Pat Wood and Gail Palmer (skip). Second prize was decided on a countback after a drawn game between Ronda Walters, Bev Kellerman and Helen Donovan (skip) and Clare Cork, Aurelia Robinson and Mavis Hardy (skip) with Helen's team coming out on top.
Welcome to Ronda Walters and brand new participant Noeleen Selakovic – we hope you find bowls a great game. Sue Wales won the raffle, donated by Rapley's Meats. No birthdays to report this week.

Dalmeny women's bowls
WITH this week being our special day for Remembrance it was lovely to see Patron Lucy, Anne Harrold, Mary Mangan, Margaret Macauley and Lyn Marsden all joining the bowlers for a light afternoon tea. We were sorry Dulcie, Lyn, Eleanor and others on the sick list were not able to join us. The Joan Shanahan Shield was won this year by the team of Margaret Carpenter, Lois MacGregor and Kathy Ryan. The spider was killed yet again by Gail Farrell, and on top form all day, so I was told was, Margaret Carpenter (not happy with having won the Shield) also had the first and only resting toucher of the day. Birthday wishes to Ina Peady. Winners of the day were lucky lead Gabby Cheel - lucky second Maureen Nankervis - and lucky skip Pat Barklem. Runners up lucky losing lead Olwyn Mayer - lucky losing second - Barbara Wort and lucky losing skip - Maureen McKenzie. Winners of the raffles were Margaret Macauley (who bought her own tickets this time) Olwyn Mayer and Pat Cameron.
Croquet news
THE highlight of the Narooma Croquet Club season is the staging of the South Coast Shield Teams Championship. In 2015 this was held over three days from Friday, May 22 till Sunday, May 24 after a soggy start on Friday we were blessed with bright sunshine for the last two days which was a welcome relief for the organisers and the players involved. Held at the Dalmeny Sports Club croquet courts together with the use of the three bowling rinks of which we are indebted to the bowling fraternity for allowing us to use their facilities there was some great Association and Golf Croquet played over the three days as well as some friendly banter between the players. Also there was a busy group of people lead by Pearl Hanson and her assistant Pauline Wilcock who provided the players and officials with a great range of homemade food and beverages to keep up their strength. All this was greatly appreciated by the players and officials. Other members such as Edna Falkiner and Melva Horsington kindly offered their services with the catering as well as cooking various cakes slices and soup et cetera. Christine Stent was another who supplied various assorted soup flavours. To all of you thank you so much. To the equipment manager and vice president Alex Nitsche did a mountain of work - great job Alex. To Delma Taylor our secretary and Janet Jones our treasurer who took on the scoring procedure which is a huge task, did a fantastic job - well done girls. To that all round reliable good guy Michael Taylor who manned the barbecue on Friday for the sausage sizzle and again on Sunday for the wind up function cooked up a storm and saw that nobody went hungry. Take a bow Michael.
After many close matches the final results were as follows-Association Croquet winners were Canberra. Runner up were a mixed Team from three different areas who went under the name of "Other" and in the Golf Croquet winners were Nowra White who were competing in their first ever tournament. An amazing effort. Runners up were Canberra. Congratulations to all team members.
In closing may I thank the Narooma Sporting and Services Club for their financial support in staging this tournament and to the many members outside the committee whose support was overwhelming in the final dismantling of the equipment at the tournament. Your efforts were certainly appreciated. For and on behalf of the Narooma Croquet Committee and its members
President Ken Cole.
