“At one stage on Saturday morning, we had to close the car park on NATA Oval because it was full,” organiser Dan Field said.
The inaugural HuntFest held in 2013 was described as an outstanding success with attendances surpassing all expectations.
Since then HuntFest has continued to grow in popularity.
For the first time this year organisers had firearms and ammunition on display and for sale to people with the appropriate licences and paperwork.
“There was only one firearm sold at the event,” Dan said.
Another first for 2015 was the Sporting and Shooters Association mobile air rifle range operating at the event.
“You needed to be 12-years old to have a shot on the air rifle range, so there were a few disappointed 11 year-olds,” Dan said.
The butchering and sausage making demonstrations drew large crowds and there was a continuous queue of both young and not so young people waiting to have a shot at shooting a bow and arrow.
There were 1243 entries received in the photographic competition and the top 10 in each of the seven categories were on display at HuntFest with the winners being announced later this week.
A constant queue at the barbecue kept the workers busy with more than 185kgs of venison and 200kgs of goat served up as burgers and kofta sandwiches. Cryovac venison and goat was also available to purchase.
There was a minor confrontation on Sunday when an ABC film crew wanted to come on site to film the carcass skinning and the air rifle range.
Organisers decided to refuse them entry and they were forced to do their filming around the event.
“HuntFest was a great family event and everyone had a good time,” Dan said.
“I would really like to thank the South Coast committee and in particular the junior members who worked long hard hours to make the event the success that it was.”
