An ichthyologist (good scrabble word for fish identifier) from the Australian Museum is currently checking for a positive identification. The slender tuna is not an uncommon fish, however it seems to be little known in our waters and is not often caught recreationally.
Another rare recreational catch and much sought-after quarry is the broadbill swordfish.
Narooma locals Georgia Poyner and Brett MacDonald got a 45kg broadbill swordfish last weekend fishing the Montague southern seamount.
A number of boats tried again this latest weekend tried for broadies but with no success - there is always the next moon!
