Narooma Surf Club won the Club of the Year in recognition for its exemplary patrolling record and excellent growth in the club.
It’s been a dramatic turn-around at the club in the last five years going from a class of only 28 nippers to around 180 this last season.
“It’s a fantastic result for the club that has had an enormous turn around in the last five years and what is most pleasing is that fact that this has been the result of a lot of people’s work and not just a few,” Narooma club captain Ben Bate said. “And thanks to all the volunteers, working behind the scenes.”
Far South Coast Director of Lifesaving Andrew Edmunds said he was very proud to award Narooma the Club of the Year award.
“They’ve done a fantastic job and really have been building to this result over the last few years,” Mr Edmunds said.
“On the beach they’ve had a perfect record and continue to grow the club membership.
“The whole team have done a fantastic job and should be very proud of their efforts.”
In another win for Narooma, club member Joe Halsey won Male Competitor of the Year, his accomplishments including three firsts in beach sprints, flags and 2km run at the country championships and then a third and fifth place at the State championships.
He also won the Iron Man competition at Pambula and club captain Ben said his list was too long for this paper.
