Narooma Golf Club general manager Dominic Connaughton and administrative officer Tracey Benbow last week handed over a $2500 cheque to the Narooma Rural Fire Service brigade.
Captain Adrian Cooper said the golf club’s donation last year paid for new radios and security at the station, while it also helped replaced the roof on the building.
This year, the donation would go toward the purchase of eight new dual-purpose structural and bushfire helmets, worth $247 each, he said.
Dominic said this was the 21st year in a row that the club had made donations to organisations around Narooma.
“We realise the importance of these not-for-profits and especially of the firies, VRA and surf life saving that come to the rescue,” he said.
Later in the week, Dominic and Tracey handed over another $2500 to the Narooma Volunteer Rescue Association (VRA) squad.
Accepting it was Narooma VRA rescue squad Captain and president Dave Alabaster who gave them a tour of the base on the Narooma Headland.
The VRA has decided to spend the money on solar panels to go on the building’s roof as their biggest expense is the power bill to keep the equipment charged and office running.
The VRA recently switched to all LED spotlights, which can be run off batteries in its rescue trucks that are kept charged at the base and a smaller generator if needed.
Next will be the Narooma Surf Life Saving Club when the Narooma Golf Club makes another donation to an organisation that saves lives.
