Champion ski paddler Nick Ziviani explained the series was started to encourage novice paddlers into surf skis and out onto the water with one event every month during winter held on the rivers and lakes at Tomakin, Moruya and Narooma.
On Saturday’s course the paddler headed out from Forsters Bay, up the inlet as far as the power line area and then back for a total of 6km.
Paddling for Narooma in double skis were Nick and his wife Tash, Nigel Constable and Rod Patmore and Jae and Narelle Constable, while in single skis were Brendan Constable and Andrew McCaughtrie.
Paddlers also came from Mollymook, Moruya, Bermagui and also Broulee who organised the series.
Broulee Surf club wrote on their Facebook: A very cold winter's morning greeted 27 brave ski paddlers for the third round of the Winter Ski Series. It was great to see some new faces and all paddlers enjoyed the beautiful Narooma River. Thanks to all who helped on Saturday!
In the time trial, Scott Carver of Batemans Bay won this Narooma leg and there is a cumulative award at the end.
Nick said it was all about getting novice paddlers out and giving them confidence on the flat water before they take to the ocean.
He will be competing on a surf ski in George Bass Surfboat Marathon that is back on in January, which he said should attract a lot of interest as the event has been opened up to the ocean ski style surf skis and not just club regulation skis.
He was also confident that a number of young Nippers were keen to get into surf a ski as soon as their feet could reach the steering peddles.
