The post of commercial fisherman Jason Moyce’s video of his great white shark encounter resulted in more than 240 “likes”, a similar amount of “shares” with a total number of 20,300 “views” on the Narooma News Facebook page.
Why we are seeing more sharks in local waters and around the Australian coastline remains a mystery that will only be solved by more scientific research.
The good news is that fisherman such as Jason are doing the right thing, releasing protected species like the great white shark, and even recording their interactions.
Science does not seem a priority for a Federal Government who are slashing budgets and we don’t even have a science minister.
If we are ever going to learn more about our natural world that sustains us and matters such as a changing climate and ocean, then we are going to have to put more into science and scientific research.
