Bermagui and Narooma historical societies' activities

A GREAT revised edition of the book “Bermagui: A Century of Families and Features” is being launched next Saturday, September 22.

Bermagui Historical Society members have been working hard this up-to-date publication with lots of great photos and history of the region.

It is surprising how many people have connections to Bermagui in one way or another and this will be a great opportunity to stay in touch.

It is also a great chance for residents new to the area to learn about the special place in which they have chosen to live.

The book has been published by the Bermagui Historical Society who is very grateful for Ron Gaha’s donation of copyright of his original work. The society in turn has put a lot of effort into this edition to bring it up to date.

The book will have 55 photos included, some examples attached, as well as comprehensive indexes.

The launch is to follow a cup of tea and scones in the CWA rooms, in Corunna St, Bermagui, starting at 10.30am.

Keep this date free, as it will really be a pity to miss this event.

Busy months for Narooma Historical Society

NAROOMA Historical Society has had a wonderful couple of months out and about.

Last month members joined with Moruya Historical Society to revisit the gold rush at Nerrigundah and in particular the raid by the Clarke gang of bushrangers in 1866.

It was a fascinating day that attracted about 34 people and was enriched by the stories of long time locals Kath Lawler and Norma Costin.

The September meeting has been moved from the third Sunday to the fourth Sunday, so instead of this Sunday it will be the following week, Sunday, September 23, at MACS Cottage behind the Kinema, at 3pm.

It will also be the AGM as well a planning meeting for future outings and guest speakers.

“If it’s anything like the last 12 months, the society is in for a good year,” society president Gene Turvey said.

Members are asked to please bring some afternoon tea. New members and visitors always welcome.
