THE Lions Seniors looked like a decent side on Saturday and with a hint of depth as they covered the absence of Tim Lagarenne with a team that were competitive on numerous occasions throughout their match against the Pambula Panthers.

Never were the Lions in the match but they surely won the clearances as they went hard at the ball at each stoppage, forcing Pambula to retreat and find scores on the rebound. The swift and clean ball movement from Pambula proved the difference and saw them increase their lead at every change.
Newly arrived player, John Murray continued to stamp himself as an authoritative fullback and made Pambula’s full forward earn every mark. It is defensive assuredness like this that a decent team in the future can be built on. Another story that continues to develop, too is the speed of Tommy Clarke. It seems as though every opponent I, personally play on, as if it were programmed monotony cannot help to comment on Tommy being “impossible to stop”.
As prelude to the Senior match all three junior sides fought out good contests with the U11s and 13s falling narrowly short and the champion U16s unit holding off a good challenge as they covered the absence of four key players. The highlight for the day was a 40 metre, non-preferred side-line goal from Jackson Taylor. One of the best goals I’ve ever seen at Bill Smyth oval.
On another note last weekend’s family day at Bill Smyth Oval was a fantastic event for the Narooma Lions. It was a fun event which brought a great sense of community back to the club while boosting its ability to fund necessary purchases and fee payments for the remainder of the season.
Scores for the Lions for the weekend were:
Under 11s Narooma 5-3-33 defeated by Pambula 5-7-37
Under 13s Narooma 5-6-36 defeated by Pambula 6-6-42
Under 16s Narooma 11-8-74 defeated Pambula 4-4-28
The Lions’ U16s team sit four games clear at the top of the Association’s ladder.
Narooma’s U11s travel to Gundary Oval to take on the Broulee/Moruya Giants at 9.30am this Saturday while the U13s, 16s and Seniors travel to Merimbula to play at 11am, 12.30pm and 2.15pm respectively.
