The ramp re-opened at the end of June after Eurobodalla Shire Council reconstructed the concrete boat ramp and refitted the existing timber jetty.

Now the ramp will close for four weeks while contractors from Sydney install a floating pontoon wharf measuring 2 metres wide and 24 metres long. The pontoons are made of plastic and will be topped with hardwood decking.

Council said the pontoon wharf had been designed by specialist marine consultants to meet the specific needs of the site and to create safer and easier access for boaters because it rises and falls with the tide.

“We have similar designs successfully in place at Moruya town wharf and at Hanging Rock Place in Batemans Bay,” mayor Lindsay Brown said.

“The pontoons are especially good for solo boaters because they can safely launch and retrieve their boats by themselves.”

Council has spent $100,000 on the North Narooma Apex boat ramp, with additional grant funds of $250,000 from the NSW Government's Boating Now program, which gathers revenue from fishing licenses.

“We have been able to reconstruct many of the shire's boat ramps using this funding approach, getting better than dollar for dollar funding for our investment,” Clr Brown said.

“Council understands the importance of quality boating and fishing facilities to regions like ours, and we are very pleased that we've been able to capitalise on this funding opportunity to stretch what we can achieve for our community.”

North Narooma Apex boat ramp will close on Tuesday, August 4 and is scheduled to re-open on Friday, August 28.
