This was an ecological burn that assists in maintaining and enhancing the “Endangered Ecological Community” grassland that occurs on these three headlands.
A council spokesperson said it was a close replication of the indigenous burning regime that would have been used prior to European settlement.
These grassland headlands once occurred abundantly along the east coast from spanning the South East to the North Coast.
They are now endangered as they are often lost to shrub invasion and urban expansion.
The results from these burns have shown this to be the most environmentally sound way to manage them.
