The alarm was raised at 11.59pm by neighbours and local volunteer firefighters with the Potato Point RFS brigade responded but little could be done as the fire consumed the house quickly.
Fortunately the husband and wife, who are long-term Potato Point residents, were able to escape but had to break back in to rescue their pet dog.
The Narooma NSW Fire and Rescue unit, Bodalla and Dalmeny Kianga RFS brigades also responded with their Cat 1 appliances and firefighters say fortunately it was calm night, which reduced the chances of the fire spreading to other houses on Long Point Street.
The fire flared briefly on Tuesday morning requiring the attention of local firefighters. Police were on the scene investigating the cause of the fire.
