The $1280 donation was the remainder of funds raised several years ago by the chamber to assist a previous replacement of the Bar Beach swimming enclosure net.
Now that the “shark net” is in good condition, chamber and council determined the best use for this remaining money would be the replacement of the showers at the beach.
Current chamber president Orit Karny Winters and previous president Matt Deveson of the Whale Motel handed over the $1280 cheque in the Ocean Lounge enjoying its view over the inlet and Apex Park.
Mayor Lindsay Brown said the new showers would be the latest improvement to the park including the newly upgraded boat ramp with its new 29-metre floating pontoon, while more amenities were in the works thanks to another donation to be matched.
In the case of the new double-head showers at Bar Beach, council was pitching in the balance of the $6000 total cost including installation.
