The Facebook post of last week’s article generated 150 comments with passionate comments, both for and against the proposal.
A poll on our website asking if you would like Syrian refugees to come to Narooma saw 500 votes, 74 per cent against.
One would hope that Narooma residents would show compassion for refugees but I guess concerns about how they would make a new life in our town are understandable.
The proposal however is to have them here temporarily so they can find their feet, learn English and then move on to where are there are jobs and more prospects.
For those who believe religious extremism has caused a lot of the problems in the Middle East forcing the refugees out of their country, it is ironic that it is another religious organisation offering to house them.
For those who believe the world would be a better place without religion, perhaps we should only accept atheists into Australia.
