And we have been read around the world from Antarctica to Finland thanks to our “Have News will travel...” feature – for example on the left is Lyn Goldsmith and the Narooma News taking advantage of the only way to travel over the sand dunes of the Sahara Desert in Morocco – a camel.
Today we bring you are new look, founded on an old ideal: to bring you your stories first. We’re keeping you in the picture in exciting new ways - telling your stories in print, online and through social media.
How we deliver stories has changed, but not our desire to share them. Each technical jump forward - from monks painstakingly writing holy text on parchment, to the first printing press and, now, our digital age - has changed society.
Technology has broken down the division between the printed word, audio and video. You, our readers, now decide how you stay in the picture.
The Naroma News has a strong ethic of supporting its communities, particularly its volunteers. We’ll continue to bring you the news, the community events that remain our lifeblood and the sport you love.
Final Blues Fest ever
There was a real tinge of sadness at this the last ever Great Southern Blues Festival on the long weekend.
Neil Mumme and his crew will hopefully bring another event or two to town, and while not over multiple days, there is enough in Narooma for visitors to do even if the music lasts only one day.
Two couples certainly hoping for a new Narooma music event are Ellen and Gavin Tom from Parkes and Steve and Kim Flaws from Cootamundra, both friends with Rhonda Upton from the now closed La Salle Motel where many an international blues muso has stayed.
Chatting to them on Friday evening, they said they all loved to come to Narooma and could see how important a large event was for a small town that relied on tourism.
“We will keep coming, things have to progress and I’m sure there will be something to replace it,” they said.
“You need something that attracts new people who then fall in love with Narooma and want to keep coming back.”
