No heat, no noise, no crowd, a pleasant change from the weekend, so the 34 bowlers who nominated for the midweek afternoon bowls would have enjoyed their matches. The winners were chosen by Maggsey's draw & the draw was highest number of shots scored on 5 mystery ends. The side to take the prize on the day may not have won their match but were able to score most shots over those 5 mystery ends. The winning side on the day consisted of Jon Voytas, Gerry Harvey & Peter Pickett.
Also played was a round of the Dixie Dean Trophy, with the win going to John Breust, Jon King & Paul Naylor.
On Saturday, October 10 there was only three rinks of pairs and one of triples competing for the $540 Jackpot. Our winners on the day was the side that won their by the highest winning score, & that side was Garry Breust and Mo. Hinds, a 27 shot to 15 win over Bill Wilton and Paul Naylor.
Runners-up were Leigh Falkiner & Tony Palmer a 21/ 0 win over the paper boys Garry Evans & Paul Read. A draw was done to choose a lucky rink for the winning skip to cut the deck of cards in an attempt to turn up the Joker & walk away with the $540 Jackpot. It wasn’t won.
Club Dalmeny results
It was great to see 35 bowlers who laboured through a hot and steamy holiday Monday afternoon. Secret ends was the game decider with that Narooma mob Ray Speedly and Jim Grant banking on the help of our Ken Bennie to take 1st prize with 12 and shark Finn, Welsh Ned and my cobber Peter on 10 as runners up. The resting toucher wasn’t claimed along with the $174 jackpot, both of which will jackpot to next week.
On Thursday the game decider was “shots up” which pleased the winners on 30 being Bob PD, Kennie B and Ron of the Island from the runners up on 16 in Marg Ponder, Macedonian Illya and Peter the Hat. The resting toucher went to Bob PD but the $146 jackpot will once again jackpot to next week.
In the quarter-finals of the mixed pairs championship the only game played was between the Jones, Jan and Bernie who couldn’t keep up with the pairing of Barbara Pearce and Pres. Keith who were headed only once on their way to a comprehensive victory of 34/12.
Dalmeny Women's Bowling Club winners were decided by "Lucky Rinks" and the winning team was Margaret Brown, Margaret Laker and Barbara Wort as skip. Runners up were Bev Bowater, Pat Cameron and Pat Barklem.
We had one resting toucher by Maureen McKenzie and the spider was won by Pat Barklem. Raffles were won by Bev Bowater and Pat Barklem. Birthdays were Olwyn Mayer, Enid Brooker and Lyn Marsden. Consistency commenced on Tuesday with the following round played on Saturday.
