Exciting news of the first showing of kingfish and they are almost legal!
Jon and Georgia Poyner headed out to the shelf late Sunday, as they wanted a few striped tuna for snapper bait.
“GP was on rod watch when I noticed she looked as if she had fallen asleep... I thought I had better look behind only to see one of the outfits with most of the line screaming off the spool. I struggled to remove the rod from the holder and felt sure we had a nice yellowfin,” John explains.
“GP took over as I got the other outfits out of the way. With line still pulling from the reel I headed the boat towards the fish. What a surprise to only have a stripey - how hard did this little fellow go!!...got into a few kings on the foul-house but found the single hooks on the Xraps kept pulling, so only landed rats at around 60cm.”
Benn Boulton from Charter Fish Narooma had another boat load of happy punters.
It was a "Sharknado" aboard PlayStation on Tuesday with eight gummies and a mako, not to mention the Esky full of flathead on the way home.
Dash and Hippie from the Narooma Ocean Hut Compleat Angler had nother great day on Wagonga Inlet again on the weekend.
Although no trophy fish were found, they report the fishing was fairly consistent.
There were a couple of dry spells throughout the day , but sticking it out prove to make it worth the wait as the last hour produced 12 fish with six different species
The final tally was 18 odd flathead with the biggest hitting 65cm, nine tailor, five bream, three salmon, three trevally, one snapper and a flounder.
Meanwhile, New Narooma resident Nat McGill sent in a pic of a nice flounder and flathead she caught. She also threw back two big flatties – well done Nat and great to see you practising catch and release with the big girls!
Local anglers remain excited about the news that a Fishing Attracting Device (FAD) is going in east of Narooma and north of Montague Island next month. And it looks the the dolphinfish could be on their way.
Will Vaughan fishing with Steve White in 600 fathoms off Jervis Bay on the weekend landed this great 25kg dolphinfish and sent it into our South Coast online fishing page.
Bring them on!
Down at Bermi Bait & Tackle, Josh McCue reports there were plenty of gummy sharks with most on anchor having the best result.
Snapper a little slower probably due to the water temps up a little but still a heap of reef fish and flathead. Small kings are hanging around in close and hopefully the big models turn up shortly.
Owner Scotty had a fun outing on the garfish on Wallaga and some nice flathead on plastics. Mr Hooker had yellowfin on the deck around 30kg and lost another.

Moruya fishing report
Moruya river: Reports this week of bream being caught around the hospital area. Live nippers and lightly weighted soft plastics like squidgy bloodworm wrigglers have been working well. Down the front of the river around the hole in the wall large whiting, bream and some flatties are taking nippers, beach worm and diving lures like strada badgers and Diawa presso's . High tide is the best time for down there. If it's bass your after a few of the boys have been walking the banks above the pump station with good results.
Tuross: A great report this week from VIP members Justine and Liam of nice bream and perch . Justine caught her first perch - a healthy 40 cm job (photos on our Facebook page) on Z man grubs watermelon colour. The new 3 inch gulp nemesis got a work out also claiming both bream and perch. VIP member Matt also had a good morning out while chasing flatties around the highway bridge hooking up to what he thought was a monster flattie turned out to be a 75 cm jewie. Not a bad effort out of a kayak and only using 4 lb braid
Rocks and beachs: Salmon and tailor are still being caught along most beaches with pilchards and beach worms being the pick for bait. Arma Metal slices will also work well. Bream are also being caught in the gutters but you will have to fish early mornings or late afternoons using beach worms once more.
Offshore: VIP Col reports a strong current from the north which was making fishing a little difficult earlier in the week, but he still managed a good bag of snapper around the 3-4 kilo. He also caught mowies , flatties and chinaman leather jackets with a couple of gummy sharks thrown in. Col also reported stripped Marlin and yellow fin tuna are getting more and more regular out on the shelf. Nick and Hannah from kingfisher marine are also reporting kingies, flathead, snapper and gummies out around Montague island.
Remember every day is a good day for fishing

Narooma Bowlo Fishing Club
YES it’s a week late but I had a good excuse which will be revealed later.
The weather was perfect for the fishing comp and it showed with another huge weigh in that kept new weigh-master Wayne very busy and lucky he had his son Adam assisting.
Winners for the month were Dave Clark, Peter Shakeshaft, Renae Butchard, Logan McDonald, James Young, Mick Cavic, Andrew Stewart, Robyn Babidge, Kayleb Stewart, Wayne Giffen, Mandi Yates and Michelle Simpson.
The outside crew stood out from the rest of the gang with some good snapper, mowies, flathead, jackets and pigfish all in the bags but the beach report was very, very poor with all reporting it’s a waste of time at the moment
But that means it can only get better. There were some stud bream caught by Wayne and Mandy Giffen and they are sort of not telling us from where but he will break soon.
So next month sees the club putting on another charter boat to cater for the growing crowd of fisherman and we welcome Norm and Nick Ingersole from Narooma Charters who are also sponsoring a prize each month on the wheel so even more reasons to wet a line and enjoy the fun we have each month.
This is why we are a little late as the committee had to finalize it.
So next comp will see John Moore’s boat try and out muscle Nick’s boat Sea Eagle for bragging rights at the Sunday barbecue which is a funny one this month with the comp starting Friday, October 30 to November 1.
Now it’s nice to see the new Marine Park Advisory Committee meeting on the 27th of this month and let’s hope this one achieves something as the last one was a total waste of time.
Talk about “Yes minister”, anyway I’m certain the new committee members will inform us and will look forward to representing us at these meetings.
Too all the new members that turned up sorry we never were advised that you had joined during the month and that problem has been rectified and we look forward to seeing you next comp.
So let’s hope the weather holds for the battle of the boats next comp!
