NRMA Insurance has announced NSWRFS Eurobodalla Southern Brigades Group as the recipient of a 2012 Community Grant, providing the local organisation with funding to the value of $10,000 for an emergency readiness and response initiative.
The grant will be used to obtain a Thermal Imaging Camera to assist in the location of and to extinguish concealed fires within structures, motor vehicles, commercial premises and in some classes of bush and grass fires. The much-needed equipment will increase the group’s ability to save life, minimise damage to property and ensure fires are properly extinguished. The camera will also be used in the search for injured persons in hazardous environments.
Megan Lupton, NRMA Insurance Community and Sustainability Manager, said the Community Grants program has been helping community groups build safer communities for the last 10 years.
“This year we had a fantastic response from community groups who have put a lot of thought into how to help their local communities. NSWRFS Eurobodalla Southern Brigades Group is one of this year’s recipients and we look forward to seeing their project in place.
“We are proud to support organisations that make communities like Eurobodalla safer,” Ms Lupton said.
This year across New South Wales, 60 groups received Community Grants, with NRMA Insurance investing around $396,000 into local initiatives. Since the program’s inception in 2003, there have been about 1,300 recipients nationally totalling more than $5.3 million.
