“It should be a great fun day and we’re encouraging local businesses to have their staff Christmas parties at the races,” said Rotary spokesperson Vere Gray.
“People can have either a delicious catered three-course lunch, with bookings essential by Dec. 1 as numbers are limited, or self cater with a marquee and package with the Jockey Club, or just bring their own lunch or buy it on the day.”
There will be fashions on the field, fundraising activities, Santa and children’s entertainment. The eight race program starts 1pm.
The new Oncology Unit at Moruya Hospital, constructed under the new Sub-Acute Rehabilitation Unit at Moruya Hospital was opened a few months ago.
“Community pressure and initiative resulted in us getting a new Oncology Unit probably years ahead of when the Government would have otherwise planned it,” said MCC chairman Clr Rob Pollock.
The need for better facilities for local Oncology patients and staff was identified by Ron and Tralee Snape and quickly taken up by the community with the formation of Moruya Cancer Carers. Clr Pollock said by the end of 2015, the community will have raised about $270,000 for MCC.
“That money has been used in several design features, purchased several treatment chairs, and improved the general ambience of the unit. One item to come is a covered walkway from the set-down area to the unit.”
