Boaties be on the lookout

WIRES Far South East branch had an endangered species of Green Sea Turtle come into care last week.

Surfer John Smith was out in the waves out past the Merimbula wharf and noticed a thoroughly exhausted marine turtle struggling. He rang through to The Merimbula Aquarium and Michael McMaster contacted Janine Green who drove to pick up the turtle.

She weighed in at 8.76kg and was six-years-old.

Unfortunately she had a major concussion and was haemorrhaging from both eyes and had scraping down the left side of her shell. She was administered fluids and drugs to help with the bleeding and shock but only survived 48 hours. People had noticed her in the water the day before so boaties keep your eyes peeled and try to avoid these magnificent creatures.
