Finch said that there was still a number of spots to be finalised and all in-form players, including veteran Brad Hogg and out-of-favour Test spinner Nathan Lyon, would get a look in.

"Anyone who's taking wickets and making runs is going to be up for selection," Finch said on Monday.

"It's great to see guys jumping out of the pack and really putting pressure on themselves to perform well and get their name right up there.

"The way Nath [Lyon] has bowled in Twenty20 cricket has been unbelievable. He's been someone who consistently takes wickets.

"At the moment you have to consider all options. It's going to come down to the make-up of the side and the way that we want to structure up as a team."

A report on cricket.com.au this week said that Hogg has not retired and was still available for selection.

"I'd love to represent my country again. That's the pinnacle of anyone's career," Hogg told the website.

There will be plenty of opportunity for players to push their selection claims with Australia preparing for the World Cup with a three-match Twenty20 series against India in January and a three-match tour of South Africa in March, while also playing five one-day internationals against India and three against New Zealand.

Perth Scorchers quick Jason Behrendorff will be out to impress when given his opportunity, while Steve Smith will be hungry for some limited overs runs after missing the start of the Big Bash League to prepare for the second Test against the West Indies.

The spinners spots will be hotly contested with Nathan Lyon (six wickets), Cameron Boyce (three wickets), Steve O'Keefe (three wickets), Brad Hogg and Adam Zampa all in good Big Bash form, and all bowling with economy rates under eight.

Finch says his own spot is safe for the moment, but like any captain he has to lead from the front and look to keep scoring runs.

"I've had some good chats with Boof and the selectors on how we think we can structure the side and I've definitely got myself in there," said Finch.

Australia's World T20 gets under way on March 18 against New Zealand in Dharamsala.
