Over the next two months Occupational Therapy students from the University of Canberra will be collaborating with Narooma Primary School to create a reused plastic PET bottle greenhouse.
“This project creates an opportunity for groups and members of the community to get involved in creating the plastic bottle greenhouse. When the greenhouse is complete it will be a great meeting place for community members to enjoy gardening and meet other people,” said occupational therapy student, Top Suthayakhom.
The Recycled Bottle Green House project will be drawing on the knowledge and expertise of members of the Community and hopes to engage with Narooma Men’s Shed, as they were involved with a similar project with IRT Dalmeny last year, making planter boxes.
“We are hoping that the plastic bottle greenhouse will also encourage students and members of the community to further develop their interest and involvement in gardening, biodiversity, and sustainability,” Mr Suthayakhom said.
“We need to crowd source 1,500 PET bottles for the green house - 1.25L and 2 L,” added Kausik McKinnon, the other occupational therapy student involved with the project. “We would also very much appreciate any donations of resources such as timber or concrete for the footings and in-kind expertise.”
The project has already started with the bottle collection at school and will be reusing some frame work donated from a demolished shed on the school grounds and Narooma Golf Club.
