The Animal Justice Party (AJP) lodged an application with Eurobodalla Shire Council to use the Narooma Sport and Leisure Centre and NATA Oval on the June long weekend, starting in 2018.
The hunters club has previously held HuntFest at the venue on that weekend, and the council is considering its application for a five-year extension.
Secretary Alan Millar said he found it “very hard to believe” that the AJP did not know about HuntFest.
“We don’t particularly care. We have applied for another five-year licence,” he said.
“We have been doing it for three years successfully, so we have the runs on the board and we are fairly confident that we will get the nod for the weekend over something that has never been run before.
“If they were to be successful in getting a licence, we would just go to another weekend.
“There are 51 other weekends in the year.”
Mr Millar said they chose the long weekend to provide more time for people to experience everything the Eurobodalla had to offer.
“One of the biggest pushes from the start is that we showcase the Eurobodalla Shire and what is has to offer and try and get people to, not just come to Narooma for HuntFest, but to try fishing, visit Tilba and all the other attractions,” he said. “We want to one day spill across NATA oval.”
