Rotary raises funds for Oncology Unit

“This is so fantastic and we are so grateful,” said Ron Snape on behalf of Moruya Cancer Carers.

“Our community has raised over $80,000 so far to improve the amenity of Moruya Hospital’s oncology unit which is so greatly needed. It’s so great to be part of this community.

“These improvements will be a tremendous boost to staff, to patients and to their families.”

He said the State Government is now also on board.

Narooma Rotary Club President Terry Irvine said this donation was just the start of the Club’s contributions to the oncology unit.

“We will also be working with Moruya and Batemans Bay Rotary Clubs and Assistant Governor Vere Gray on a major fundraiser for the Oncology unit later in this financial year.”

The raffle was initiated by Narooma Rotarian Ange Ulrichsen.

It was won by Peter Ryan of Surf Beach with ticket Red B91 which he bought at the August Rotary markets.

The whale watching tour was generously donated by Darryl and Kristen Stuart of Narooma Charters.

The Club’s newest member Peter Bull, who had been a member in the Club when he was a chiropractor in Narooma, then gave members an insight into ‘the life and times of Peter Bull’.

He spoke about growing up in Sydney, his early career as a radiographer and marrying his childhood sweetheart Karen.

Peter then went back to university to become a chiropractor, working initially in Penrith and then buying the Narooma practice in 1994 when he also joined Narooma Rotary.

He spoke of that time, when the Club initiated the Narooma Triathlon and the annual Duck Race, and when the Club was responsible for the upkeep of the lawns and barbecues in Narooma and Dalmeny Rotary Parks.

He moved back to Sydney in 2000, did a residency at Macquarie University in chiropractic radiology, and then spent 12 years there as an academic.

Now Peter has retired to Narooma.
