ON Thursday 17 Dalmeny Narooma bushwalkers set off from Preddeys Wharf, walked the pathway towards the township of Moruya Heads, and made our way along Pedro Point road to the beach.
A sheltered spot was found for morning tea. Then we walked along the beach to Moruya Heads. Climbing up the headland to enjoy the views up and down the coast and inspect Toragy Point cemetery, which provided an interesting insight into life in the area during the late 1800s.
We then made our way along Shelly beach and enjoyed the views of the several breakwaters and training walls that used to guide shipping through the river mouth.
Approaching the Pilot Station, we heard stories about the early history of the pilot and signal station as it served the river/harbour mouth. It is also one of the oldest operating meteorological stations in Australia. Having lunch beside the pilot station, we then made our way back to Preddeys Wharf and thanked Pat Reid for organising this interesting 10km walk.
