Gary was actually a female goat originally called “Ebony” even though she was white and belonged to Nikki and Daniel Maybury, who are devastated by her loss, as she was much loved.
She was a common sight tethered to a post on their property on the Princes Highway in North Narooma.
Gary was bought from a property in Moruya. Nikki believes she died of old age, and she was almost 10, which is getting old for a goat apparently.
“Ebony (aka Gary) was a talking point of Narooma,” Nikki said. “Kids have already noticed her gone and parents don't know what to say to them.
“She often got beeped at, and 'hello Gary' was screamed out car windows numerous times a day. Tourists stopped by to pat her. Everywhere we went she was mentioned by someone. I'm so pleased she brought so much enjoyment to everyone. There will never be another Ebony.”
